At the time, the Beard was in the impasse, wrestling with his desire to produce more adult-produced songs such as The Color Purple and the Empire of the Sun, and living up to his name in Hollywood, he became world’s greatest blockbuster director. Sure, the film boasts his signature visual flourishes, humor and a well-directed thriller, but the beat heart of the movie is more creative than the dream of telling a grand story. What I see is that Hook is more often used by him than by Frankenstein. As a story, a grown-up Peter Pan must come back to Neverland for a starring role with Captain Hook, the story never begins to surprise both parties. However, the special effects are surprisingly dated, especially in contrast to other era releases: James Camerons Terminator 2: Judgment Day. At an incredible 142-minute time, it is too long for family adventures that owes more to the Goonies than, say, Tors.
