About 150 yards further up was Morland Bungalow / Hattons Nurseries (“not for Babies though”) St.Kllda Cottage as is now was first of all the Coastguard Station, Villa-Marina at one time the home and practice of Dr.S.A.G.Penny The Sailing Pen was at one time our Tennic Club and around it we made a Putting Green all that has now gone. You must remember at that time there were 240-pence to the £1-00, not a 100 as it is now. Starting at the bottom of the town, the place which is now a Carn-Park was at one time a Picnic Grounds and Saw-Mills, we had swings, roundabout, mapole, a sweetshop and Tea-rooms, I went to the Methodist Sunday School at the bottom of the town and each year we had our Sunday School Treat headed by Marazion Town Band, we paraded up through the town down around Chymorvah, then the Rookery, the Gew, and then onto the Picnic Grounds where we then dispersed, each child was then given a bottle of Pop (with a glass stopper) and a Saffron Bun the size of a dinner plate, games wre played by young and old, The grown-up’s had a sit down tea in the Tea-rooms at the entrance to the Picnic Grounds, on the left hand side that was the Saw-Mills, The wood was all cut to uniform size and then chopped into kindling wood by a fellow called Garfield Chapple, they were then done up into bundles of equal size and secured by a wire band, these were then sold in the shops for 2d.abundle.

When I talk to Marazion people, those younger than myself of what we had here thay become amazed and say why dont’t you put it down on paper? because thay say if anything happens to me and it’s not recorded then a lot of History of Marazion will be lost, There are a few here about my age and several much older who probably can remember more. My reason for mentioning this is it’s now 1992, and from that you can deduce I’m no chicken, work it out, my age?. On the 8th of August 1916, a great event took place at Marazion, *I was born!*.Yes I was born at 1 Sea View Cottages, Oats Road, Marazion, Christened eventually Edward Clarence Pearce, always known as Clary.
